Adorned with laurel leaves, this set, typical of the 18th Century, was inspired by cutlery once owned by the Duke of Penthièvre, Louis XIV's grandson. TO OBTAIN CUTLERY, an alloy of 925/1000 of pure silver and 75/10000 of copper is smelted into lingots, laminated to the thickness required, and then cut into blanks before being stamped into a die-form. After filing, each piece goes to the master cutler where special care is taken to patiently draw out the fine details of each motif and pattern. Serving pieces require the skills of cutler silversmiths for their assembly. Finally, the flatware is hand polished and eventually burnished to give it a fine patina.
